How do you estimate Scope 1 & Scope 2 emissions?

Answer

Broadly, we differentiate between two types of models to estimate Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Regression-based models (RBMs) combine reported emissions with one or more asset-level characteristics (such as production, energy consumption, size, customers, etc) with emission levels to build statistical models. Activity Based Models (ABMs) use an emission factor (EF) per unit of activity to convert an asset’s operations into estimated emissions.

Things to consider:

Scope 1 and 2 emission projections follow the growth patterns of the emissions in each country. The growth rates are determined by the level of alignment with the Paris Agreement.
